Welcome to Hammond Elementary School 2019 - 20!
I hope you had an enjoyable summer.
Our school hours have changed. Students begin their school day promptly at
7:30 am and are dismissed at 2:30 pm unless they are participating in one of our after-school programs. Breakfast is also provided at 7:30 am. School uniforms are optional this school year. Gym uniforms are still required and can be ordered by obtaining the order form in the main office. The order form and money can be sent to the classroom teacher for processing. Our office hours are from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Also, please be sure to complete and return the requested forms sent home in a big CPS white envelope. This includes a Parent Checklist booklet from the
District’s Healthy CPS office. The forms are very important to ensure your child’s emergency contact information is on file, has the required dental, physical and immunization documentation required to attend classes, and consent forms to participate in certain activities to name a few.
We are excited to welcome our students back and are ready to provide a quality learning experience to all students. In addition to providing relevant, engaging instruction, the staff and I will continue building strong relationships with all students and families.
Our partnership with our families and community is very important for our
success. I encourage you to become involved whenever possible. Attend our
parent meetings and participate in our school events.
I’d like to welcome and introduce to you the following new staff members:
Blair Cohn – Pre-kindergarten Teacher
Teddi Kyle – Pre-kindergarten Teacher

Our garden continues to be developed thanks to our partners at the Lincoln Park Zoo. The slide has been installed and we will begin conducting outdoor recess there, weather permitting. We also have placed other partners donated wooden seats on the California courtyard and wooden benches near the school’s playlot.
Technology continues to increase at Hammond! Every classroom
pre-kindergarten through 8th has a promethean board to support instruction and increase student engagement. We also have iPads and Chromebooks to support intervention and acceleration during small group instruction.
Our Union League Boys and Girls Club partnership will continue this school year. The after-school program hours are now 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. More information regarding the club, our other extra-curricular programs and events will continue to be posted along with additional school information on our social media, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Please follow us!
The staff and I look forward to working with you and your children. We are
excited and look forward to another wonderful school year!
Go Hammond Hawks!
Ms. Anamaria Orbe, Principal
