hAMMOND'S aTTENDANCE POLICY
Students who are absent for 10% or more (18 days or more) of the school year are considered chronically absent, whether the absence is excused or not.
Students who have 5% or more (9 days or more) of unexcused absences for the school year are considered chronically truant.

Your student's attendance at Hammond is of the utmost importance! Attendance affects academic progress; if your student isn't in school, our staff is unable to teach and provide services to your students to the best of our abilities. Communication is key.
If your student must be absent...
If your student must be absent...
- Please inform the main office by phone (773) 535-4580 (if no one answers, please leave a message) on the day of the student's absence. You can also inform your student's homeroom teacher via email or a message on Remind.
- Log in to your Parent Portal account to submit an E-Absence note.
- OR come to the main office to fill out a "Reason for Absence" note
- OR write your own "Reason for Absence" note to be sent with that student upon his/her/their return to turn in. This note should include
- Your child's name
- Your child's grade level and homeroom
- The date(s) of your child's absence(s)
- The reason for the absence
- CPS's reasons for an excused absence
- Student illness
- Observance of a religous holiday
- Death in the immediate family
- Sounding taps at a military funeral for a deceased veteran
- Parent/legal guardian is an active member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone
- Specified family emergency (explanation required)
- Circumstances which cause reasonable concern for your child's safety or health (explanation required)
- Other situations beyond the control of the student (explanation required)
- CPS's reasons for an excused absence
- A parent/guardian's signature
- A parent/guardian's phone number
- The date the note was written
